Semana Santa is upon us again. Spaniards love sweetness so you will notice at Easter that treats are popping up all over Spain. In this blog we present you different dishes, which are eaten at Easter in Spain.
Mona de Pascua
Mona de Pascua is a roll of dough, sprinkled with powdered sugar and a little aniseed. The sandwich can be recognized by the colored hard-boiled egg that lies in the middle of the sandwich. The roll is also available with a chocolate egg in the middle.
Pestiños
Consists of a piece of dough, fried in olive oil and glazed with honey or sugar & cinnamon. Delicious!
Torrijas
Torrijas are like French toast. Slices of bread are briefly soaked in a mixture of milk and eggs and then baked. Finally, the pastry is sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon if desired, savor it.
Buñuelos
Buñuelos can be found all year round in Spain, particularly in stalls at ferias and markets, but Buñuelos are also part of and traditional Easter meal. The sweet, fried dough balls are often filled with cream. Like churros, buñuelos are a great accompaniment to a cup of hot chocolate.
